World Water Week 2024

The Global Water Commission on the Economics of Water will be participating in the Stockholm World Water Week in Stockholm, Sweden, from August 26-28, 2024.

The Stockholm World Water Week 2024 presents a pivotal opportunity for global water, advancing cooperation across sectors and national boundaries. As the leading conference on global water issues, World Water Week unites a diverse array of stakeholders—from policymakers and business leaders to activists and researchers—each dedicated to addressing critical water-related challenges. This year’s theme, Bridging Borders: Water for a Peaceful and Sustainable Future, will delve into the multi-faceted issues surrounding water, from climate resilience to equitable resource management.

In this context, The Global Commission on the Economics of Water will make a significant contribution by participating at World Water Week, connecting the hydrological cycle, human economic activity, indigenous rights, and water security. The Commission aims to foster dialogue on the economic dimensions of water as a global common good and to explore innovative approaches for preserving the hydrological cycle.

The Commission will contribute to World Water Week 2024 through a series of impactful sessions.

Sessions will focus on:

  • Engaging Indigenous Peoples to explore their critical role in atmospheric water flows and guide future policy directions.
  • Discussing how to achieve higher levels of collective ambition and transformational changes to stabilise the water cycle across sectors and geographies.
  • Showcasing best practices and innovative approaches in water resources monitoring, emphasising social justice and the integration of new technologies.
  • Examining legal instruments, regional experiences, and just water partnerships to manage water within safe and just boundaries.
