Third in-person meeting of the GCEW

The Global Commission on the Economics of Water held its third in-person meeting in Potsdam from 9-10 December 2022.

The meeting was hosted by the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK). The meeting focused on the work process of the Commission and the next steps.

Outcomes from the retreat included:

  • Agreement on modes of participation of the Commission at the UN 2023 Water Conference. These include: participation of most Commissioners; active participation of members of the Commission in the five the active dialogues that will structure the Conference; side event on the Commission co-convened with the Netherlands and a special event on the Commission co-convened with the Major Groups.
  • A revised outline for the first report of the Commission, to be launched at the UN 2023 Water Conference in March 2023.
  • Agreement on next meetings and steps.
